Well, it’s finally here, the official release of The Oxidized Garden, the first book in the Fateweaver series! It’s been about three years since my last novel release, and this one took its time to get right.
Some of you may be surprised by the inspirations behind this rather unusual tale, so let’s get the obvious part out of the way first: I’ve always been enamored with Greek and Roman mythology, and it’s no secret that their influence weaves through every page of my work. But despite the nod to the Sisters of Fate, would you believe this book was also heavily inspired by a little-known action-adventure game from 2007 called Folklore?
When I first played it, I was captivated by its blend of Celtic and Irish mythology, and its whimsical yet haunting cast of fae creatures. Beneath its gorgeous and eerie aesthetic, the game explored profound themes—life, death, and the idea that humanity’s fear of mortality was a necessary safeguard against the corruption of both the mortal and fae realms. Those themes struck a chord with me, and I began shaping The Oxidized Garden around them, finding they intertwined beautifully with my interpretation of the Sisters of Fate.
Over the years, the book has gone through many changes. Nona, who was inspired by Ellen, was the very first character I wrote for the story. While the lighthouse she once called home didn’t survive the final draft, her presence in the narrative is no less important. The Fateweaver series has become my swan song to the girl who has lived rent-free in my imagination for eighteen years. This is for you, my first muse.
Dear reader, I hope you find as much wonder in these pages as I did in writing them. And if this story speaks to you, please consider picking up a copy of The Oxidized Garden to help support my work. Thank you.
